2022 Ford F-450 Super Duty

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 2022 F-450 Super Duty.

The 2022 Ford F‑450 Super Duty is presented in the vehicle’s overview with a total of 19 owner complaints and five recalls, the most frequent issue area listed as Unknown or Other. Examining the model’s complaint history from 2009 through 2014, the highest number of complaints in any single year was two in 2011, while the lowest was one in 2010, showing a generally low‑complaint period for those earlier models. Situating the 2022 model year within that context, the higher aggregate complaint count indicates a shift in reliability relative to the earlier span, although the specific nature of the issues remains categorized as unknown or other.

Multi-step torque procedures OEM · verified

Inspection Procedure (Upper) — tightening sequence 1 stages
1Check the ball joint and boot for any damage. Step 3: Measure the ball joint deflection with a dial indicator that has a flexible arm by attaching between the axle and track bar at the ball joint. Dial indicator should be aligned as close as possible to the center line of the ball joint. Step 4: Push up and pull down on the track bar by hand until reading is on indicator. Step 5: Replace the ball joint if dial indicator readings exceed specifications.
Inspection Procedure (Lower) — tightening sequence 1 stages
1Check the ball joint and boot for any damage. Step 3: Measure the ball joint deflection with a dial indicator that has a flexible arm by attaching between the axle and wheel knuckle at the lower ball joint. Dial indicator should be aligned as close as possible to the center line of the lower ball joint. Step 4: Push in and pull out on the wheel and tire assembly at the top and bottom by hand until reading is on indicator. Step 5: Replace the ball joint if dial indicator readings exceed specifications.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The 2022 Ford F‑450 Super Duty recorded three fire‑related complaints, zero crash complaints, and two complaints each in the categories Unknown Or Other, Electrical System, Engine, and Power Train. Earlier federal records from 2009‑2014 show fire complaints never reported and recalls of three in most years, with only a single recall in 2014, indicating a low‑complaint baseline prior to 2022. The 2022 model therefore represents the first year in this generation with any fire complaints, while its recall count is not listed, breaking the prior pattern of consistent recall activity. Because the data does not specify a root cause, the increase is noted but not explained, and the absence of crash complaints does not offset the fire‑related concerns. Consequently, a risk‑focused buyer should weigh the observed fire complaints as a moderating factor, making the 2022 F‑450 an acceptable purchase only if prepared to accept that exposure.
