2007 BMW 650I E64

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 2007 650I.

Transmission Automatic (S6)

The 2007 BMW 650I, built on the E64 platform, mates a six-speed automatic (S6) transmission to an 8.5-quart oil capacity calling for 15W-40, 10W-40, or 10W-30 API SJ grades, with EPA fuel economy rated at 15 city / 23 highway / 18 combined mpg. Within the owner-reported data covering 2012 through 2015, this model year registers a notably light footprint of just two complaints—led by electrical system issues—alongside two recalls, placing it among the quieter entries in the lineup. That standing sits in marked contrast to the model's broader arc, which peaked at 22 complaints in 2012 before tapering to a low of 3 by 2015, framing the 2007 650I as a relatively dependable anchor point for researchers tracing the model's reliability trajectory.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

Owner complaints about the 2007 BMW 650I E64 dominate in one area — the electrical system, 1 of 2 reports (50%), well ahead of the next concern. None of this vehicle's 2 recall campaigns target the electrical system, so those reports read as owner-reported wear-and-tear rather than an acknowledged defect. 0 of the reports describe a crash and 0 a fire — a small share of the total, but worth weighing against the electrical system pattern above. These are tallies of what owners actually reported to the federal government, not an editorial score — and higher-selling models naturally rack up more reports.
