Factory maintenance schedule OEM · verified

Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter every 7,500 mi; spark plugs every 30,000 mi; coolant every 30,000 mi. The big-interval services (every 30,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The federal record for this generation shows a fluctuating complaint trend, peaking in 1991 with 12 reports and dropping to zero in 1992. The 1993 model represents a resurgence in issues with 9 complaints and 5 Technical Service Bulletins, the latter being the highest count between 1990 and 1995. Specifically, 1993 complaints focused on the structure (3), seats (1), latches/locks/linkages (1), and seat belts (1), although the data does not specify the root causes. Compared to the near-perfect record of 1992 or the decline seen by 1995, the 1993 model sits at a local peak of reported instability. Consequently, this is not a recommended year to buy.
