Body PASSENGER CARTransmission Automatic 4-spd

The 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring is a passenger car whose engine is coupled to an automatic four‑speed transmission, holds 4.2 qt of oil that meets API 5W‑20/5W‑30 specifications, and achieves EPA fuel‑economy ratings of 23 city, 30 highway and 26 combined mpg. During its production years from 2009 to 2012 the model accumulated 451 total owner complaints, with steering issues topping the complaint list and four recall campaigns issued, situating the 2010 year near the lower end of the complaint curve — below the peak 655 complaints recorded in 2012 but above the 279 complaints of the 2009 baseline. Thus, the 2010 Elantra Touring offers researchers a relatively stable reference point within the model’s early‑generation reliability history.

Factory maintenance schedule OEM · verified

Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter every 7,500 mi; spark plugs every 60,000 mi; coolant every 30,000 mi. The big-interval services (every 30,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

In 2010 the Hyundai Elantra Touring received 451 complaints, a notable increase from 279 in 2009 and a slight dip to 455 in 2011, while recalls remained flat at four each year. Investigations stayed constant at two, but total safety‑belt‑suspension (TSB) complaints fell from 48 in 2009 to 46 in 2010 before spiking to 134 in 2011. The most frequent complaint categories in 2010 were Steering (181), Air Bags (39), Electrical System (21), and Power Train (21), with 49 crash‑related and 12 fire complaints reported. Compared to the surrounding years, 2010 shows a moderate rise in overall complaints but no sharp escalation in recalls or investigations, suggesting a relatively stable safety record within the generation. Thus, while some issues persist, the 2010 model does not exhibit a deteriorating trend, making it a reasonable year to consider if a well‑maintained vehicle is found.
