1984 Ford Bronco II

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1984 Bronco II.

Transmission Automatic 3-spd

The 1984 Ford Bronco II carries EPA ratings of 15 city, 17 highway, and 16 combined mpg, is equipped with a three-speed automatic transmission, and calls for 4.0 quarts of 5W-30 API engine oil at service intervals. Owner-reported reliability records show 13 total complaints and 3 recalls, with the electrical system standing out as the top complaint area. Since the Bronco II’s year-by-year complaint history is documented only from 1990 through 1996—ranging from a high of 29 complaints in 1990 to a low of 1 in 1992—the 1984 model falls outside that tracked window, so it cannot be ranked against those peaks and valleys, but its lower complaint and recall totals point to a comparatively small reported-issue footprint.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The 1984 Ford Bronco II recorded 1 crash‑related complaint and 7 fire‑related complaints in the federal record. By comparison, the earliest year with available data, 1990, showed 29 total complaints, 2 recalls, 4 investigations and 24 technical service bulletins. Subsequent years demonstrate a sharp decline, with 1992 and 1993 each reporting only 1–2 complaints and no recalls or investigations. Complaints remained low in 1994 (4) and 1996 (1), while recalls stayed at zero. Although complaint trends before 1990 are not provided, the notably higher fire‑complaint count for 1984 relative to the near‑zero fire complaints in later years suggests that earlier models may pose a greater fire risk, making a later‑year Bronco II a preferable choice if fire safety is a concern.
