1979 Chevrolet G30

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1979 G30.

The 1979 Chevrolet G30 stands at the early edge of this model's documented complaint history, which spans 1990 through 2002 and reveals a trajectory that peaked in 1995 with 26 recorded complaints before declining sharply to just a single complaint by 2002. That peak arriving roughly sixteen years after this model year's production suggests the platform's most significant issues surfaced well into its service life rather than at launch, meaning a researcher evaluating the 1979 G30's reliability should look less at initial build quality and more at the mid-life failure patterns that defined the 1990s data. The steep drop-off to one complaint by 2002 further indicates that whatever systemic problems drove the mid-decade spike had largely been resolved or aged out of the surviving fleet, positioning the 1979 model year as part of a generation whose long-term durability is best understood through the lens of issues that emerged over time rather than from the factory floor.
