1978 Chevrolet G10

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1978 G10.

The 1978 Chevrolet G10 appears in the reliability record with minimal documented owner friction: just one complaint on file, centered in the Power Train category, and a single recall. That complaint count matches the lowest annual tally in the model's tracked 1990–1998 history, a span that peaks at ten complaints for the 1996 model year. For researchers, this places the 1978 G10 near the quiet end of the documented problem spectrum, making it a useful baseline when comparing later, more frequently reported model years.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The supplied federal record covers 1990‑1998 and contains no entry for the 1978 model year. Within that window, complaints were lowest in 1990‑1992 (0‑1 per year) and rose to a peak of 10 in 1996 and 1997. Recalls varied between 1 and 3 per year, with the highest count (3) occurring in 1990‑1992, 1994, and 1996. Technical service bulletins increased from none in 1990‑1992 to a high of 4 in 1997 before dropping to 3 in 1998. Because the 1978 year is absent from the data, the record does not allow placement of that model within the observed trend, so a determination of its suitability based solely on this federal history cannot be made.
