Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1984 Blazer 4WD.
The 1984 Chevrolet Blazer 4WD, built on the classic full‑size SUV platform, requires a modest 4‑quart fill of engine oil—available in 20W‑20, 15W‑40 or 5W‑30 viscosities—to keep its robust powertrain running smoothly. Despite its dependable engineering, the 1984 model year records a low total of nine owner complaints, the most frequent being seat‑belt issues, and it has been subject to three recalls, reflecting a solid but not flawless safety profile. When placed within the broader Blazer reliability narrative—spanning 1995 to 2008, where the most complaints occurred in 1995 (1,418) and the fewest in 2008 (5)—the 1984 Blazer sits comfortably in the lower‑end of the complaint spectrum, underscoring its relative durability and reliability for researchers examining long‑term ownership trends.

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.
Owner complaints about the 1984 Chevrolet Blazer 4WD dominate in one area — the seat belts, 3 of 9 reports (33%), well ahead of the next concern. None of this vehicle's 3 recall campaigns target the seat belts, so those reports read as owner-reported wear-and-tear rather than an acknowledged defect. 5 of the reports describe a crash and 0 a fire — a small share of the total, but worth weighing against the seat belts pattern above. These are tallies of what owners actually reported to the federal government, not an editorial score — and higher-selling models naturally rack up more reports.
