Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1984 Fleetwood.
The 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, delivered an EPA-estimated 24 mpg combined and required 4.5 quarts of oil, with recommended viscosities of 20W-20, 15W-40, or 10W-30. Its ownership record is remarkably clean, logging just one complaint—centered on the engine and cooling system—and two recalls. This places the 1984 model as an exceptionally reliable outlier within the Fleetwood’s broader history, especially when compared to the 1990–1998 generation that saw complaints surge to a peak of 46 in 1993.

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.
Based on the federal record provided, the 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood cannot be directly assessed, as the dataset covers model years 1990–1998, which represent a subsequent generation of the Fleetwood platform. The available data does not include complaints, recalls, investigations, or TSBs for the 1984 model year, making a specific evaluation of that vehicle's defect profile impossible. Therefore, I cannot provide a definitive recommendation on whether 1984 is a good year to buy based solely on the federal data provided.
