1982 Cadillac DeVille

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1982 DeVille.

The 1982 Cadillac DeVille is characterized by a lean reliability record featuring two recalls and 11 total owner complaints, with the vehicle speed control cited as the top complaint area. This volume is markedly lower than the model's 1990-2005 history, where annual complaints ranged from a low of 94 in 1990 to a high of 306 in 1997. This positioning establishes the 1982 model as having significantly fewer reported issues than the later 1990-2005 period.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The provided federal record does not include data for 1982; it begins in 1990 and spans 1990–2005, representing a later generation of Cadillac vehicles entirely unrelated to the 1982 model year. Without 1982-specific complaint, recall, investigation, or TSB figures, I cannot compare the target year to adjacent model years or identify where it falls within any documented trend arc. The sole 1982-specific data point available is the top complaint area breakdown (Vehicle Speed Control, with 2 complaints, and 1 fire-related complaint), but this cannot be contextualized against a generational pattern that the dataset does not cover. **Concrete takeaway:** The data provided is insufficient to assess whether 1982 is a good year to buy this vehicle, as no federal record from that era is included in the JSON.

THE FUEL FILTERS WERE PRODUCED WITH AN INCORRECT THREADED FITTING. THE INCORRECT FITTING IS SIMILIAR ENOUGH IN SIZE THAT THE FUEL FILTER MAY APPEAR TO BE CORRECTLY THREADED ONTO THE FUEL LINE. Remedy: THE IMPROPER THREADING COULD CAUSE A GASOLINE LEAK WHICH MAY RESULT IN AN UNDERHOOD FIRE WHEN EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.

UNDER CERTAIN VEHICLE OPERATING CONDITIONS, THE GOVERNOR WEIGHT RETAINER IN THE INJECTION PUMP MAY FAIL. THE THROTTLE VALVE COULD STICK, PREVENTING RETURN TO IDLE AND SHUT DOWN OF THE ENGINE BY THE DRIVER. Remedy: DEALER WILL REPLACE THE GOVERNOR WEIGHT ASSEMBLY IN THE INJECTION PUMP AT NO COST TO OWNER.
