5. Internal transmission mechanical failure

A broken shaft, worn bearings, or other internal damage can prevent the tone wheel from rotating, resulting in no signal. This is rare but serious.

6. PCM/ECM failure

The PCM itself is very rarely the cause. Only consider this after thoroughly testing the sensor, wiring, and mechanical components. Replacing the PCM for P2751 is almost always unnecessary.

  2. Visually inspect the intermediate shaft speed sensor connector and wiring for damage, corrosion, or loose connections; repair as needed.
  3. Measure the sensor's resistance with a multimeter and compare to manufacturer specifications (typically 200–2000 ohms). An open or short indicates a bad sensor.
  4. Check for 5V reference voltage and ground at the sensor connector with the ignition on. If missing, trace the circuit back to the PCM.
  5. Inspect transmission fluid level and condition; low or burnt fluid can affect sensor operation. Top off or replace fluid if necessary.
  6. If all electrical checks pass, remove the sensor and inspect the tone wheel through the sensor hole for damage or debris. A borescope may be needed.
