Less common, but corrosion, pin spread, or rodent damage at the PCM connector can create an open in the sensor return or signal path.

5. Failed PCM/ECM

Rare and unlikely. The control module would only be suspected after the sensor, wiring, and connector have all been fully verified as good.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Confirm the code and freeze frame data, then visually inspect the Bank 2 Sensor 5 wiring and connector for heat damage, chafing, or corrosion.
  2. Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature; compare to manufacturer specifications to check for an internal open.
  3. Back-probe the sensor connector with it connected and the key on to verify reference voltage and ground are present at the harness side.
  4. Perform a wiggle test on the harness while monitoring live data to check for intermittent opens caused by damaged wiring.
  5. If wiring and sensor test good, check continuity from the sensor connector to the PCM connector to isolate an open in the harness.
  6. Only after all wiring, connector, and sensor testing is confirmed good should the PCM be evaluated as a possible cause.
