P2156 means the engine computer has detected a lower-than-expected supply voltage on the shared power circuit for Fuel Injector Group D. Because that voltage is needed to energize the injectors, the group may not open or seal properly, leading to drivability problems.

What causes it — most likely first

1. Wiring or connector fault in Group D supply circuit

The shared injector feed wire can be chafed, pinched, corroded, or have poor pin contact, causing a voltage drop, short to ground, or open circuit. This is the most common root cause for a supply-voltage-low code.

2. Faulty injector(s) in Group D

An injector winding with an internal short or very low resistance can pull the supply circuit down or trigger a low-voltage fault. Testing resistance and comparing injectors helps isolate the offender.

3. Failed fuse, relay, or power distribution point

  1. Record the code, freeze-frame data, and any companion injector or misfire codes before clearing and retesting.
  2. Visually inspect the Group D injector harness and connectors for chafing, corrosion, terminal damage, and poor pin fit.
  3. With the key on and engine running, measure supply voltage at a Group D injector connector and compare it to battery voltage and to other injector groups.
  4. Test resistance and operation of each Group D injector; swap or substitute injectors if needed to confirm whether one is internally faulty.
  5. Check the injector fuse, relay, and any intermediate splices or distribution points in the Group D supply path, plus the integrity of the ground circuit.
  6. If all hardware tests normal, use a scope or scan-tool bidirectional test to evaluate PCM driver output; consider module replacement only as a last resort.
