U0436 means a control module on the vehicle network has received implausible or corrupted data from the front differential control module. The front differential control module is still communicating, but the information it is sending—such as clutch engagement status, torque split, or position data—does not make sense to the receiving module. This usually points to a problem with the differential control module or its circuit rather than the module that logged the code.

1. Faulty front differential control module

The module itself can produce corrupt or out-of-range data due to internal electronics failure while still remaining on the network. This is the most common root cause for an invalid-data code directed at that module.

2. Wiring or connector faults to the differential control module

Poor connections, corrosion, chafed wires, or high resistance in the module's power, ground, or data circuits can distort the messages it sends. Intermittent faults may set the code only under certain driving conditions.

3. Incorrect software or calibration

A mismatch in software level or calibration between the differential control module and the receiving module can cause data to be interpreted as invalid. A reflash or configuration update may resolve it.

4. Interference from another network module

A separate module sending malformed messages, a shorted CAN bus circuit, or excessive network traffic can occasionally make valid data from the differential control module appear invalid.

5. PCM/ECM failure
