U0094 indicates a loss of communication on the H (high speed) vehicle bus. The powertrain control module (PCM) detected that the bus is not transmitting or receiving data as expected.

Symptoms

What causes it — most likely first

1. Faulty or corroded H‑bus wiring or connectors

Damaged harnesses, loose pins, or corrosion at the bus connectors can interrupt the high‑speed communication line.

2. Short circuit or open circuit on the H‑bus

A short to ground or an open circuit caused by a broken wire or a faulty splice will prevent the bus from maintaining signal integrity.

3. Failed bus termination resistor or improper termination

The H‑bus requires correct termination at each end; a missing or defective resistor can cause communication loss.

4. Defective control module (e.g., transmission control module, ABS module)

A module that has failed its transceiver can hold the bus low or fail to respond, leading to a U0094 code.

5. Powertrain control module (PCM) communication fault

Only after ruling out wiring and peripheral module issues should the PCM be considered; a rare internal fault in the PCM’s bus interface can trigger U0094.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Visually inspect H‑bus wiring harnesses and connectors for damage, corrosion, or loose pins.
  2. Perform continuity and resistance checks on the H‑bus lines to verify no opens or shorts to ground.
  3. Check termination resistor values at both ends of the bus and replace if out of specification.

Replacing the PCM is rarely the correct solution. In most cases the problem is wiring, connectors, or a peripheral module. Only after exhaustive testing of the bus hardware should the PCM be considered.

A sensor that includes its own communication transceiver (e.g., a transmission control module) can cause the code if it fails, but a simple temperature or pressure sensor that does not use the H‑bus will not.

Will fixing the code restore all affected systems?
