4. Steering column or intermediate shaft alignment/clock-spring issue

Misalignment, worn splines, or a damaged clock-spring that carries the sensor's signal can produce intermittent or low readings that the module interprets as a circuit fault.

5. Steering control (EPS/VES) module failure

An internal reference voltage or input-conditioning fault inside the steering control module can report a sensor signal as low even when the sensor and wiring are good.

6. Engine or powertrain control module (PCM/ECM) fault

Although the code is logged by the steering controller, a powertrain module that loses communication or supplies corrupted data can contribute. This is uncommon and should be considered only after every other cause is ruled out.
