A 'low' reading means the circuit voltage has dropped below the expected range, which the controller interprets as a sensor or wiring fault.

4. Power supply or ground issue to the brake booster

Low system voltage, a weak battery, or a poor ground at the booster assembly can depress the sensor's reference voltage and produce a falsely low reading at the controller.

5. Brake hydraulic problem causing abnormal sensor position

A stuck caliper, seized wheel cylinder, or contaminated brake fluid can hold pressure that displaces the booster's position sensor beyond its normal range, setting the code even though the sensor is electrically fine.

6. Brake booster control module internal fault

  3. Verify battery state of charge and measure supply voltage and ground at the brake booster assembly with the ignition on; low voltage here mimics a sensor fault.
  4. Back-probe the position sensor signal circuit and compare its voltage and pattern against the manufacturer's specification using the scan tool's live data or a lab scope.
  5. Command the brake booster self-test or actuation test with the scan tool (if available) and observe the sensor's full-range response; a stuck or out-of-range reading points to the sensor or the booster motor.
  6. If the sensor signal and power/ground are good, perform a hydraulic inspection of the brake system for seized calipers, stuck wheel cylinders, or contaminated fluid that could be displacing the booster.
