Engine Electric

The 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix Electric utilizes an electric engine. Reliability records show only 2 total owner complaints, with tires identified as the top complaint area, alongside 3 recalls. Against the model’s documented complaint history from 1990 to 2008—a span where annual complaints ranged from a low of 102 in 1996 to a high of 859 in 1997—this 1977 entry sits at the extreme lower end of that spectrum, indicating a notably sparse complaint record relative to later production years.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

Based on the provided federal data, the 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix shows minimal documented issues, with just one complaint each for tires and engine cooling, zero crash complaints, and one fire complaint. However, the year-by-year federal record provided only spans from 1990 to 2008, entirely omitting the years immediately before and after the 1977 target year. Therefore, the data does not specify a generational trend or allow for a direct comparison to adjacent model years, making it impossible to determine where the 1977 model falls within its contemporary complaint and recall trajectory. Additionally, the data does not specify the root causes behind the singular engine and fire complaints, leaving their severity uncertain. Nonetheless, with only two total complaint areas and zero crash complaints documented for 1977, this represents a favorable federal profile, making it a good year to buy provided a pre-purchase inspection carefully vets the engine cooling and fire vulnerabilities.
